Know Your Scrub

There are so many different scrubs out there and it can be hard to know what to buy. You need to know what you’re buying and if it’s the best product for your skin. When shopping for a facial scrub, you want to avoid ones with particles that have sharp edges likes almond pits, apricot pits, and walnut shells. A popular ingredient for a scrub is oatmeal. Oatmeal is used a lot because it’s really soft against the skin and contains natural compounds. These compounds are called “saponins” as they help dissolve oils from your skin. Generally, scrubs are used at night before you go to bed to remove a day’s worth of makeup and build up.

Every skin type is different, so there are many different scrub options. If you have normal skin, you just need a scrub to loosen and remove dead or dull skin cells. You need to use a scrub about twice or three times a week. If you have dry skin, you need a scrub that will replenish the skin’s natural oils. A scrub with almond or olive oil will nourish your skin, leaving it soft and smooth. Because your skin is dry, you only need to do a scrub once or twice a week to avoid aggravating dryness.

If you are a woman with combination skin, you have to be a little bit careful when picking a scrub. You need to make sure that it has non-greasy hydrating ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. These types of ingredients will lock in moisture and won’t make the oily areas feel greasy. It is suggested that women with combination should use a scrub twice a week and concentrate on the oilier areas.

When you have oily or acne prone skin, it’s a bit difficult to pick the right product, because anything can flare up a bad case of acne. Your pores are much larger than most, so you need a product with ingredients that unclog pores like salicylic acid. Due to the large production of oil, you need to do a scrub three times a week to keep the oil at bay. Now, for the ladies that are a bit older, your skin is much more mature, which makes it sensitive. Since the skin is sensitive, you need a scrub that contains smooth beads instead of scratchy particles and you only need to do this once a week.
